Suggestions for battery powered node?

My first LoRa project is building a mailbox sensor to notify Home Assistant that mail has arrived.

The Wisen Whisper Node uses a ATMega328p Arduino compatible processor, SX1276 LoRa radio, and is very low power when sleeping. But, it’s expensive to ship to the USA.

This Chinese knock-off use the same chips as the Wisen, but I’ve found no documentation or reviews on the hardware, so they’re a bit of a gamble.

What devices are people using for battery powered nodes?

The Maduino LoRa Radio from Makerfabs looks promising. It also uses a ATmega328P and the SPX3819 voltage regulator has very low quiescent current, making it suitable for battery operation. Cost is less than $20. Going to give it a try.
