Bad IR range about 1m

Hi, I have noticed that I have about 1m range when I use IR nodemcu. I have tried different IR diodes and still the same. I have use setup based on openMqttGateway github page for IR receive and send. Any one else having issue with it?

I easily get about 4 meters… I only use a 2N2222A without any resistor… Works just fine…

Is this on 5 volt or 3 volt or a combination of both ?

Its on 3.3 v only, simply connecting it to pin and power via transistor.
